Next on my buzzworthy list is New Zealand born artist named Kimbra. This Kiwi artist is mainly known for her collaboration with Australian band called Gotye on their track entitled ‘Somebody That I Used to Know,’ which got her a number one hit worldwide. Kimbra has been compared to the likes of Bjork, Nina Simone and Florence + the Machine because of her unique music. Her debut album ‘Vows‘ was released in Australia & New Zealand in 2011 which then charted at #3 in New Zealand and #5 in Australia.

Her debut album ‘Vows‘ can be described as theatrical pop with a blend of jazz, funk and indie. Her sound is similar to the likes of Jamiroquai, Oh Land, Sia and Björk. Settle Down, the lead single from her debut album is catchy cheery pop tune. The song starts off with Kimbra uttering the words “Boom… boom… bop” and then she sings with the “Boom… boom… bop” playing in the background. About 37 seconds in, the track mix in the clapping sound in the background and then turns into this funky beats with a very cheery keyboard playing in the background. Kimbra is truly a unique and one of a kind singer.

Not only just that, Kimbra is ready to make an impact on the US charts with her debut album ‘Vows‘ which will be released on May 22, 2012 that includes 6 brand new tracks that aren’t featured on the New Zealand and Australian version of the album.

Vows will be released on iTunes in the US on May 22nd, 2012.
